 Shoppers Tips

With so many buying decisions, we have to make (over 100 a week) according to the latest research. How can we be sure we're making the right decisions? As the saying goes, "so many choices in so little time so follow the below advice from dubaisavers.com.

  ALWAYS GET A RECEIPT

It is imperative that you always retain a receipt for your purchases, regardless of whether they are made by cash, check, or charge. Make sure that the receipt clearly details the name, address, and phone number of the vendor, as well as a clear description of the merchandise itself. Additionally, make sure that all terms of the purchase are stated, including any guarantees or warranties. Please make sure that the seller's return policy is printed or at least written on the receipt and that you understand the policy before paying for your purchase.

Compatibility with your existing hardware and/or software or Internet provider is often an issue with returns. If you are attempting to return or exchange an item that is not defective but is not compatible with your computer, the vendor will not usually accept a return without a substantial re-stocking fee. Unless your receipt states that you can make a return of non-defective items for this reason, we will probably not be able to help you.

  BE INFORMED

Do your homework before coming to the show. Know as much as possible about the product that you wish to buy. The salesmen at our shows are often compensated only for sales. Protect yourself against high-pressure salespeople and unreasonable expectations as to what the product can and cannot do. Before coming to the shows, it is a good idea to read up on the products that you are considering buying. It is also a great idea to price shop so that you know the retail price of a comparable item.

When it comes to sales, and shopping in general, remember to do your research with big purchases. It is important to know your stuff when it comes to items like computers, cars, houses, and furniture. These items are expensive, but more importantly they will see a lot of use. If you buy a computer that crashes all the time because you failed to determine which brands are reliable, you will curse your purchase later. Learn to understand the basic and extra features for the items, research brand names, and learn what the going prices usually are. That way, you will spot a good bargain when it comes along and can buy with the knowledge that you will be happy with your purchase later down the road.

  TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE!!

DO NOT BUY a product at a show requiring installation unless you are ready to install it NOW. Recently, a customer brought a product back to one of our shows and claimed that it was not what he was promised. He had bought the item 6 months ago and went to install it last week. He then found that it was not the correct item. The dealer would not now exchange it. Prices fluctuate rapidly in the computer industry, companies change ownership, salesmen leave, but, most importantly, demand changes. A product that could easily have been re-sold 6 months ago may be impossible to sell now.

MAKE SURE IT ALL ADDS UP

When you come to the final decision to make a purchase, verify that the company you are writing a check out to or authorizing a charge for is exactly the same as the name that appears on your receipt. It will also serve as proof that you're dealing with who you think you are.

Should we buy the cheapest or should we buy the best quality? After all they all say their the best or the least expensive. They all claim to be the fastest, the most dependable and shiniest. Who should we believe?

  BE A PATIENT BUYER

Patient buyers are a rare breed these days of got to have it yesterday purchasing. The patient buyer plans their purchases enough ahead to give themselves time to comparison shop, research and save

the money to buy or put a good down payment on the item. The patient buyer is also in the best position to negotiate down the price because they avoid waiting until the last minute to buy.

  AVOID BUYING ON EMOTIONS

It's shocking how many purchases people make based on their emotions whether than their reason or logic. In fact, according to the latest research by Stanford University most people purchase with their emotions first. Next, they justify their emotion buying with logic.

This is why you see so many people's closets and garages stuffed with items they purchased on Home shopping channels. For example, exercise equipment, diet plans, food choppers, juicers and grills that's now gathering dust. Advertiser's first goal is to appeal to your emotions before they appeal to your logical thinking side. Why? Because they know you'll be less defensive if they can get your emotions involved first.

Now you know the secret. Keep your logic reasoning side alert if you don't your emotions will spend your money instead of your intelligent, thinking reasoning side?

  KNOWING WHEN TO BUY

Every year at end of February and July in many European countries (especially France and Germany), clothing and other articles are sold at a lower price. This is to get rid of one season's goods to make room for new season's articles.

In the USA, computer equipment is usually cheaper from Labour Day (the first Monday in September) through to New Year. You can most frequently bargain for a good deal on a car towards the end of the month, because salesmen and dealerships are tracked monthly and sometimes get anxious when their total sales count is low. Linen is cheapest during White Sales on major holidays, especially in the spring. Clothing is least expensive for everyone shortly before school starts in autumn.

  BUYING IN BULK

If you can buy wholesale, do so - this cuts out the expense of the middleman. Also, buy from stores that purchase wholesale materials or buy in big lots. With food staples and disposable home goods, purchase no-name brands or the grocer's store brands. These are usually made by the same folks who make the name-brand items. You could also buy in bulk on things like soap, toilet paper, nappies, and so on if you have the storage, as you will save money and you know you will use it all eventually.

  CAVEAT

Be warned and don't become addicted to sales. Some stores have been known to artificially raise prices in order to drop them back down in '50% Off' or '2 for 1' sales. Don't let this fool you. If you don't have any idea what the going price is for something, don't buy it just because it is on sale. You risk getting burned either by purchasing something you need at a higher price thinking it was on sale, or by buying something you never needed in the first place.

Watch your impulse buying habits, but do treat yourself now and again. For instance, many stores include items by the register and on the ends of aisles that they hope you will buy on an impulse. Do you find yourself purchasing things from these areas that look good at the time, but which you never use? If so, make a concerted effort to avoid impulse buying from these areas. On the other hand, do allow yourself the occasional splurge item. It will make you feel good, and you're less likely to splurge in a big way. Just make sure the item is something you genuinely want, not something the store has convinced you might be a good idea.
